The War on Terror goes on and on and it seems that our leaders never get serious about it nor do the citizens of America, based on recent polls. One third of this nation actually believes that the government took down the World Trade Center so they could go to war for oil – the oil that now costs us $80.00 per barrel. Yikes.
It seems that no matter what the Islamofacists do, no matter how many times they tell us they want to exterminate us, and no matter how many times they try to do so (whether we catch them or not), the people of the West stand by and await annihilation.
A few years ago President Bush said that he would not wait while dangers grow and that he would take whatever actions were necessary to protect us. Today it seems that he has been effectively defanged by his detractors and he is now impotent, unable to take any additional military action against our enemy for fear of the political ramifications that will result.
An angry left-wing media has taken the wind out of his sails with its constant drumbeat of negative reporting. Military decisions are once again being made with an eye towards the way it will be reported world wide. To me this is where the similarities to Vietnam show themselves in Iraq. We are in fact standing by while dangers fester and we will remain so until we are struck again. And with Iran’s march towards becoming a nuclear power when that strike occurs, it will be more devastating that one can imagine. And it may be too late to respond.
A fat and lazy America citizenry, awash in its bounty of food, money, and technology, sits on its smug and superior backside clicking the remote while looking down on the rest of the world - as if all of its problems will never reach them. As the percentage of our population that actually had to fight to protect America’s freedoms sixty years ago decreases, the percentage that have never had to fight for freedom and have no understanding of this country’s place in the world grows. As educators attack and downgrade her history, the mainstream media consistently reports her actions in a negative light. As a result America’s shining light dims and becomes invisible to its citizens and along with it the will to fight and defend her declines.
But while her own people forget America’s history and her standing as the beacon of liberty in the world, others have not forgotten – and they hate us for it. These people do not believe in freedom. They believe in a tyrannical world, one that represses freedoms, oppresses women, restricts speech, and demands a strict adherence to a religious law that is unwavering and cruel. These are people that hate us and our way of life with every fiber of their beings and they seek our destruction.
However we as a group apparently feel superior to them and fail to take them seriously. While they may be backward, fanatical and 7th century savages, they are smart – very smart. They are patient too. They design their diabolical plans years in advance and they stick to them. Worst of all they don’t sit around worrying how the New York Times will describe their latest abominable act. In fact they know that the publicity would actually be favorable if it makes Bush look bad. They simply seek to kill us all in the most painful and horrific way. And half of this country just does not get that.
You would think that with the Islamofacists repression of speech, oppression of women, their promotion of religion, and their general opposition to everything liberals love to defend: atheism, homosexuality, drug use, pornography, abortion, etc. that liberals would be the first ones lining up to wipe these guys out. But amazingly they would rather stand in the corner trembling, whining about what other countries think about us and the horrors of war, rather than use America’s considerable might to fight for the freedoms around the world that they try to force down our throats here.
They don’t seem to understand that when these whack jobs come that liberals are just as much a target as the rest of us – perhaps even more. Unfortunately for them if the terrorist had a choice between targets they’d probably pick liberals first. However the terrorist is not so discriminating – he just wants to kill Americans as a rule, the more the better. So while liberals are running around keeping a count of how many soldiers have died and how many innocent civilians have been killed every day, effectively muting their leader’s ability to use military power, they are helping the terrorists to survive until they develop the weapons to kill us all. This is not 1945 where we were protected by oceans. The world has gotten significantly smaller. They can and will reach out and touch us – hard.
The very NSA wiretapping program that liberals jumped up and down about, crying about domestic spying, may have in fact been the very intelligence tool that uncovered the plot to blow up ten or more trans-Atlantic flights over the ocean, foiling what looks like another Al Qaeda plot to kill thousands. And they would have been the first ones jumping up and down screaming at President Bush had they succeeded. I saw articles blaming Bush for spending too much time fighting in Iraq rather than watching Al Qaeda even after this plot was disrupted. The guy just can’t win. It is clear the will to fight and worse yet, the will to win has become nonexistent.
I think it is time for a bit of realism to enter the fray. We need an effective way to end this problem. Now it’s going to be hard and it’s going to be bloody. But if we are to leave a free nation to our children’s children and their children too we have got to get serious.
Liberals favorite guy Harry Truman was forced to make such a choice in the 1940’s. His choice was to totally demolish a fanatical bloodthirsty culture, one looking for world domination, in order to prevent the deaths of up to a million Americans and end the conflict. Fortunately back them Democrats were grown ups and real men. Not today. Truman had to nuke Japan to bring the carnage to an end because there was nothing else the Japanese would understand – and he knew it. It could not have been easy sentencing so many people to a horrible death. But by doing so he saved countless others. He dealt in the real world unlike his political descendants. They cannot see that we are in the same position today.
Both Germany and Japan were racing to develop their nukes, but we got there first. And we used them to win. Nowadays we already have them but since our educators have painted that grim day as the one where big bad America fried all of those nice Japanese people to our children we are afraid to use them – even to save our own lives. They have painted every other thing we have ever done as a matter of foreign policy in the same negative light. We are now reaping the results. We have a large portion of our citizens believing that America is evil and is the perpetrator of every evil in the world and we stand impotent unable to believe in the righteousness of our cause. In fact the people know so little about our world and our government that they believe a President can predict, prevent, and/or manipulate everything that ever happens in the world – and twist it to meet his own dangerous agenda. Apparently the President of the United States is a more dangerous terrorist than Osama bin Laden in the minds of many. What has happened to my country?
I have a plan to win the war on terror. I am no military man and I cannot give you the nuts and bolts on winning the actual battles. But one thing I do know is how to get real. I would much rather get real than get dead. I am just an average American citizen, well OK, maybe above average, but I have six-point plan that I think can win the war and guarantee our survival as the greatest planet on God’s green Earth. It will take time, determination, guts, and backbone. But if we continue on this path and fail to meet this challenge head on we will all die.
I. Administration Media Blitz
It is time for the administration to fight back against all of the negative publicity it receives over the war. President Bush going out occasionally and giving the same canned speeches using the same canned lines won’t cut it. First it gets old; second the media simply will not report it.
If the President truly believes in the threat (which we know he does) I’d like to see the government stop buying TV time to promote the value of eating fruit, of quitting smoking, etc., and start a media campaign showing the horrors of 9/11, outlining the history of the terrorists in the world, and showing video of their atrocities. The administration gets hammered day after day, hour after hour, and they do nothing to defend themselves. This is a special frustration for conservatives. I cannot understand why we as a people are considered too soft to see video of beheadings, of people jumping out of WTC etc. when that is what those people stand for. We cannot simply stick our heads in the sand. I am sure film of the destruction of Pearl Harbor was not censored but instead shown in a regular basis. Adults need to stand up and start acting like it.
The failure of the government to do this effectively is why the poll numbers on the President’s job approval and the Iraq war are so low. I believe that each and every day the pictures of the planes hitting the towers should be broadcast for all to see so they are constantly reminded of what we are up against. Our collective memory is very short. If CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, and all of the other liberal networks won’t give the true picture somebody better do it. It’s apparently a propaganda war and the Prez is losing. As I previously stated – most people get their news in small sound bites from these liberal networks so if they have no other method of newsgathering than they will believe what they see. I am sure most people know that if a lie is repeated enough it becomes fact in the minds of many. It is working to perfection in the war on terror.
II. Band Together
It is time for Democrats to stop all of their anti-American, anti-war posturing for political gain. They have lost their minds. In the lust for getting the White House back they will do everything in their power to make Bush look foolish and weak, even though it is they that weaken him.
We cannot drop a bomb without them saying it’s too big. Or that we don’t have enough men. Or that we have too many men. Or that we shouldn’t be there at all. Or that we should have taken out Saddam sooner. It goes on and on. Stop.
The Republicans meanwhile act like little old country club gentlemen unwilling to soil their hands in a fight. They sit back and take this nonsense every day while their party and administration gets pummeled and we all hurtle towards our own destruction.
It is time for Republicans to educate the public, to call every Democrat on the carpet so to speak by repeating their outrageous anti-American statements ad-nauseum, They need to trumpet the fact that a) these terrorists are nasty savages that want to kill all of us and they need to be smashed decisively if we expect our children and grandchildren to survive, b) that Democrats are no longer the party of FDR and Harry Truman. They are doing everything they can to keep us from fighting them despite their vaunted concern for the children, and c) Democrats are so dumb they don’t even realize they will die too so how can anyone ever put them in charge when they’re too stupid to prevent their own destruction? And they need to be loud about it. If that doesn’t bring the Democrats into the fold and fighting against these monsters nothing will and they will never win another election.
III. Oil
We cannot continue to proceed as we do now paying billions of dollars for oil to people who seek our destruction. We need a real energy policy that calls for drilling anywhere and everywhere in the United States and its surroundings that will yield as much of our own oil and natural gas as possible.
I am all for conservation, protecting the environment, and all that. But once again Democratic policy ignores reality for the sake of fantasy. Don’t tell me anymore about solar power, wind power, hydrogen powered cars, or the catch-all phrase: alternative energy. When technology like that becomes real and it becomes effective enough to power our vehicles, which allows this country get to work, than we can have that conversation. Until then it is all speculation and fantasy.
Until then we need to drill for as much oil and gas as we can. We can build oil rigs in a much more environmentally friendly way than we once did. We need to build additional refineries to turn that oil into gas. We need to build nuclear reactors to generate electricity more safely and more cleanly than we ever did. We can do that.
I know the environmentalists would be screaming at that one. There is a common misconception that conservatives are against the environment and we don’t care what we do to it. Most of the hunters and fisherman in this world are conservative and as such they have a large stake in the preservation of the planet. They get it. And when it comes to the average person who could be against keeping our planet clean and doing what we can to preserve its resources? Everyone is for that. But you must deal in the reality of the situation. If we continue down this path we simply enrich those who want to kill us and we limit our options against them out of fear of being cut off from oil.
I think it would be healthy if we made the oil producing nations understand that a) we are going to reduce our dependence on you and lower the balances in your bank accounts and b) if you cut us off from your oil we are coming to get it. People are too afraid of that type of manly stance. Apparently we would rather stand idly by while our economy is wrecked. I know it is their resource however 1) they wouldn’t even know what it was if it weren’t for us, 2) they wouldn’t have a clue how to get it out of the ground if it weren’t for us, 3) they all still riding camels if it weren’t for us. We should not feel guilty about guaranteeing our own survival. I am sick of that attitude.
So in dealing with reality we need to make a pact with ourselves: As soon as the technology becomes available to replace petroleum-based fuels and power our cars, etc., we go balls to the wall to change our way of life and replace or retrofit all of our gadgets that require gasoline. But to sit here pining for this magic substitute for gasoline and fossil fuels while our destruction become more and more imminent is suicidal.
IV. New Manhattan Project
I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. We need to get together the greatest scientific minds in the country or even on the planet to create a new Manhattan Project. We need to pay them well to provide the necessary incentive for them to get in a room together and develop a suitable substitute for fossil fuels.
When we needed a weapon, specifically an atom bomb, we did that very thing and in the course of eight months such a weapon was developed from scratch. The national interest was at stake and it got done. Today not everyone believes our national interests are at stake so the urgency is not really there. Oh yeah everyone talks about it but the urgency is not there. We cannot sit around waiting for Exxon to develop the very product that will put them out of business. There is too much money to be made for the oil companies to ever look for a way to slit their own throats. Got to get real people. Even after such a technology is invented it will be decades before it is fully implemented. Like the war on terror, what exactly are we waiting for? A disaster?
V. Israel
Somebody please tell me why we are trying to broker a cease fire between Israel and Hezbollah? I think I know the answer. Our left wing media is focusing on the “innocent Lebanese civilians” and “children” being killed rather than the terrorist scum who rain death and destruction on innocent Jews. I won’t get into their reasons for it because I don’t understand it.
But here we are with our ally, a perfect proxy for American power, taking on the terrorist proxy of Iran and Syria – the perpetrators of most of the violent “insurgency” in Iraq. Instead of the U.S. backing and re-supplying Israel, and keeping the U.N. and the rest of the world off their backs while they slaughter terrorists, we a brokering a cease fire – effectively castrating them and ourselves. Why? It’s all because a bunch of whiny liberals want wars to be fought without violence and bloodshed and they don’t like such nastiness on their TV screens. Figure that one out.
Sorry. Lebanon shouldn’t be allowing Hezbollah to flourish in their country and Israel certainly should not allow them to fire rockets into their cities. If Hezbollah were in Canada lobbing rockets into Detroit I believe we’d be ticked off. Though, with liberals you never know. They’d be moaning and wondering why they hate us. Again the inability to be realistic about the situation paralyzes the part of the world that is for peace and freedom and causes them to tolerate situations that are hazardous to its health. Let Israel crush those animals once and for all.
VI. Crush Them
It is time to identify those terror-supporting states that President Bush spoke of years ago by making a list and checking it twice. Then knock the stuffing out of them. I understand that the loss of ground troops is distasteful to most people – myself included. But again we must deal in reality.
First of all we rule the skies and the waters. It is time to use our Air Force and our Navy to remind these tin-horn nut jobs of who we are. Are we just supposed to sit here and wait for Iran and North Korea to fire nuclear tipped missiles at us? That is your 2006 Democratic Party platform people!
You see the main problem we have is that nobody fears us anymore. We have become so concerned with every one liking us that we don’t care when they hate us. I’ll explain that statement: we so want the Europeans, the Russians, the Chinese, and the Arab street to love us that we will allow them to crap on us and threaten us at will. But when we appear to curry their favor they actually are disgusted by it and hate us even more. Basically we cannot win so why do we bother? I’ll take their fear and respect over their love any day. We’ll all live longer that way. Again we must point to liberals who hate their own country for being so powerful and absolutely forbid us to exert any of that power even if it means we will die.
I personally do not care whether anyone loves us. What I do care about is that they leave us alone and under no circumstance will they ever consider striking us. I want them to know that to do so will result in their getting hit back much harder and that their own continued existence is called into in question. In the case of an ideology where dying for their cause is a good thing to fail to project that aura is suicidal. I am quite certain that after we dropped the bomb in ’45 that not many people were considering attacking the United States again. It took decades for anyone to consider it again and after numerous exhibitions of weakness by us the attacks have grown more vicious as the terrorists became emboldened by our lack of response.
I say enough. Why do we sit here and wait to be hit? OK so we don’t want to nuke Iran or North Korea and kill everyone. But tell me why we haven’t hit their nuclear facilities yet? So by destroying some of them we won’t get them all but we’ll set Iran back decades in its development of nukes. We already know where North Korea’s are – hit them. When they rebuild - hit ‘em again.
When that little pot-bellied North Korean dictator, Kim Jong Il, had his missiles sitting on the launch pad for days, why didn’t we wipe them out? We had Aegis cruisers sitting off their coast that could have done so easily. Again I don’t care what the rest of the world thinks, I want to live – don’t you? Why are we so afraid?
And can anyone tell me why they are against a missile defense shield? Are we going to wait around until they launch on us and we miss with the primitive system we have now before we get serious about it? Hell if we aren’t going to wipe out their facilities now at least take away the threat. We mustn’t wait until it’s too late. Missile defense, space based lasers – whatever works people.
The same half-hearted thing is true for Iraq. I understand that we didn’t want to destroy the whole country and kill everyone in it so we thought we should exhibit some restraint. However in that part of the world restraint is considered weakness. If Iran had to wonder whether we’d come for them because of their interference and support of the insurgency in Iraq, would things be as bad as they are? If we simply smashed the resistance at first wouldn’t that have removed the incentive for subsequent resistance and made Iran consider supporting the insurgents before doing so?
And why don’t we drop some bombs in Tehran as a thank you for all the wonderful gifts they’ve sent our way in Iraq? We’ve got a few not-so-improvised explosive devices we could show them. And we know they’re also fighting with Hezbollah against Israel. What’s wrong with standing up for our allies with a couple of well placed laser guided missiles anyway? We went to war twice in Europe to defend our allies. What’s the point of being America’s ally if you can’t count on them to back you up anymore?
People have forgotten that it is OK to use your force and your power when you know your cause is just. Our cause has always been just and too many people here forget that. We just freed 50 million people from tyranny and oppression and you would think we were the world’s biggest villain. We did not make them American “subjects” and we didn’t take their oil. (The same Democrats that screamed we went to war for oil are now screaming at Bush that we aren’t getting enough oil from Iraq).
You know whether Saddam had WMDs or not, freeing those people was a good enough reason to go. It was good enough reason to fight World War II so it’s good enough a reason to fight World War III. To be safe you have to defeat those who pine for your destruction – it’s a good plan. You need to use force to do so and we shouldn’t be ashamed of that. We will also need force to remain free and we should not be ashamed of that either.
This thing is not going to go away despite our wishes that it does. Political correctness as promoted by liberals in American society is nice little toy for them, but when practiced around the world relating to national security and dealing with the people who abhor you it is a dangerous thing. It is time to forget being PC, get serious, and win this thing so we can all get back to the job of living happily, prospering, and progressing.
When the schoolyard bully keeps hitting you can either curl up in the fetal position and hope he doesn’t kill you or you can stand up and punch him square in the nose. I vote for the latter over the former. How about you?
